Two of The Willey Agency's Nags Head insurance agents, Jill Beatty and Margaret Hunt, came up the idea to be a drop off point for Health Kits for Haiti. This was very helpful to many locals who wanted to donate and the Nags Head location was a convenient midway point. The Willey Agency's Avon agent, Kente Ellen Gwyn was also an integral part in collecting, assembling and transporting kits to the Nags Head location.
The kits collected were donated by various groups and individuals, from students to local businesses, from Sunday school groups to retired persons. No matter the size of the donation or where it came from, one kit or ten kits, $1.00 or $100., Jarvisburg to Hatteras, everyoneís efforts made a huge impact. Nancy Harvey the marketing manager sent out over two hundred e-mails and those efforts yielded 350 kits and $1000. in donations. The Albemarle Area Insurance Association made a donation in the amount of $300.
Pastor Teresa Holloway of Collington United Methodist Church blessed the kits before they were sent off to MERCI. The inclement February weather did slow things down a bit and the kits were finally been sent off Monday Feb. 22nd. The total number of health kits for Haiti from the Outer Banks totaled a bit over 1500 kits!
President, J. Fletcher Willey and Vice President Linda Willey highly value the work of The American Red Cross and were more than willing to have their agents spend time on this important heartfelt cause. The Willey team also includes Lynn Mancini, Nikki Duncan and Bonnie Waits.
